Throughout the1940s and ‘50s, Tuxedo Junction was the heart of the music scene within west Birmingham. During its prime, the district
alone helped bring people from all 9g neighborhoods together for the Junction’s music, nightlife, and atmosphere.
the residents of Ensley, led by Magnolia Cook, sought to preserve the rich history of the district and commemorate the respected
Birmingham musician, Mr. Erskine Hawkins, by holding the very first Function at Tuxedo Junction Jazz Festival. For the last 3 years, the neighborhood of Ensley has carried on the tradition of celebrating its roots in jazz, blues, and gospel by holding the Tuxedo Function in the Junction within their beloved district, and will be no different for on July 25th, the festival well be going into its 37th year.
